The weekend after Thanksgiving, Derek and I ventured out to get our Christmas tree! I wanted to do that as soon as possible so we have more time to enjoy it throughout the Christmas season. Now Derek prefers to get a fake tree. Nothing wrong with that, but I wanted a real tree for sentimental reasons as we always had a real tree growing up. So, not without trying to convince me otherwise, my sweet husband agreed to get a real one.
Derek fired-up the side-by-side, and we ventured out to Moore’s Tree Farm in Urbana. We were bundled up snuggly, and feverishly searched throughout the property for the perfect tree. He wouldn’t admit it I’m sure, but I think he had a good time trekking around the tree farm.
We found a few that we liked, so we tried to find a landmark to remember where it was so we could go back to it. How you find a landmark amongst acres of trees I have no idea, but we figured something out! We finally settled on this beaut. My manly lumberjack husband sawed it down for us, loaded it up on the cart, and hauled it in.
We got it put up in our house that evening. My sister helped me string the lights and hang the ornaments, always fun reminiscing about old holiday stories with her! We topped the evening off by eating apple pie and watching “Elf.” Perfect start to the Christmas season!
How do you decorate your tree? I love the inspiration from these bloggers, but our tree is more of the hodge-podgy style adorned with homemade ornaments (mostly that Derek’s sweet grandma made).
